Hurricane Dean effects

A couple of years ago, Katrina the then Rita were the talk of the town. Government and the press response locally (Houston) engaged on the most outrageous acts in generations. While Zones A and B along the coastline of Galveston Bay and the Gulf should have been evacuated, the press hyped everything to the point that people 100 miles inland were evacuating, thus clogging up the roads for the coastal evacuees. No gas, no provisions, no accomodations - people were on the road for days and went nowhere. Of course, the storm went elsewhere and there was no local damage - not even any rain. It became apparent that the storm would go north of Houston fairly early on, yet the hype continued. The reason for pointing this out is that it's happening again. Dean is well over 1500 miles out, and Houston is going crazy.

There are no batteries or bottled water in Houston today. Probably will be, but not today. I'll start posting a little today since the hype has started and it's already creating panic and chaos. All predictions at this point show entry into northern Mexico early next week, but never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

I'll try to post satellite and radar images, photos, and other items of interest the next couple of days. More later.

Dean

Satellite image Sat afternoon. All predictions are showing entry into northern Mexico next week. Houston press is constantly warning, cautioning, scaring, etc. Even Gov Goodhead of Texas has issued a statement of imminent danger. Ridiculous. Can't wait to be the first to declare that the sky is falling and crying wolf at the same time. One of these days we are going to have a real emergency and no one will pay attention.

Erin

I think tropical storm or depression or whatever came through here today and dropped a couple of inches of rain and you would think the world was coming to an end according to press accounts. No noticeable wind associated with the storm. Houston streets and freeways flooded and of course the crazies tried to drive through it so the town is pretty well gridlocked top to bottom and side to side. People do not know that when Houston was laid out its low elevation caused drainage problems, so when they built the streets, the streets were designed to provide drainage. That means that the water goes to the streets and then runs off all the way down the street. Now when the drivers attempt to cruise the streets at the same time the streets are providing drainage services, sometimes problems arise. These may include submerged cars, stalled cars, cars without brakes, floating cars, etc. Normally the floating cars and those being propelled by flood waters may disregard traffic signals and should therefore be given right of way if these conditions exist. Maybe someday someone will talk to the citizens of Houston about driving in the rain. Anyway, more later.

More No News Is Good News

We finished July with the wettest on record I think - if no, surely in the top 5. Summer finally showed up here in the first week of August, so at last the press and the looney birds were able to unleash their long awaited Global Warming scare tactics and scenarios. I guess this is the first August ever where temperatures in the Houston area have exceeded 90 degrees. Amazing that so many people will fall for that crap. Oh well, at least it's late enough in the game for me that I won't have to listen to it much longer. Still too sore in the back to do any fishing, and it will probably be better to wait until September or so to start anyway. That's about all from here tonight, so more later.
